MBA Student Orgs

The MBA Association (MBAA) serves as the umbrella organization for our student-driven clubs and committees. The MBAA provides funding for all of the subsidiaries and works to create an atmosphere where the subsidiary groups can meet their organization’s mission statement goals. The MBAA clubs and committees cover a wide range of professional, cultural, and athletic endeavors and are all available to join for free or a small annual fee. The MBA Association (MBAA) is the umbrella organization that coordinates professional and social activities for MBA candidates. The primary goal of the MBAA is to improve the reputation of The George Washington University Graduate School of Business (GWSB) by enhancing the educational experience of its members through activities that promote student involvement and foster a sense of community.

Professional MBA Committee

The Professional MBA Committee is a specialized branch of the MBAA and works to promote involvement in and out of the classroom that is geared towards fitting the lifestyles of the working MBA students.

Both organizations will strive to present a unified student voice to the University administration by providing a forum for students to express their opinions, build consensus, and take action.

The American Marketing Association at GW

MBA Consulting Club

The George Washington University Consulting Club (GWCC) is a student association aimed at increasing the professionalism of all GW Students interested in a career in Consulting. Our Mission is to promote education, events, experience, and the expansion of resources related to the field of consulting; to connect students interested in the field of consulting with industry professionals and industry alumni; to promote the profession of consulting by hosting academic and learning events for area professionals and students; and to promote The George Washington University as a leading institution for recruiting.

Consulting Club members receive priority access to all major events hosted by the Club. Membership is $15 a year. Registration forms are available on the GW Consulting Club Website. Finance and Investment Club (FIC)

The Finance and Investment Club at the George Washington University provides an opportunity to associate with other students who share common career and professional interests. The club also provides information to the students in the field of finance and provides service activities related to that field. National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA)

The George Washington University Chapter of Graduate Women in Business is a chapter of the National Association of Women MBAs, dedicated to promoting women in business and increasing the opportunities for women MBAs. The purpose of NAWMBA is to offer personal and professional development to its members through networking activities, mentoring, lectures, discussions, workshops and other special events. Net Impact’s mission is to improve the world by growing and strengthening a network of new leaders who are using the power of business to make a positive net social, environmental, and economic impact. With over 120 chapters across the world, a central office in San Francisco, and partnerships with leading for and nonprofit organizations, Net Impact enables members to use business for social good in their graduate education, careers, and communities. We believe that business can both earn a profit and create positive social change. Net Impact enables us to transform this ideal into measurable results.

Real Estate Investment and Development Organization (REIDO)

REIDO was established to complement the Real Estate knowledge domain offered through the GW MBA program. It aims to further familiarize students who have a common interest in real estate investment and development with real estate issues and organizations in the Washington, DC, area. REIDO is also dedicated to providing students with relevant events throughout the academic year with which to enrich their academic experience at the business school, and serves as a link to GW alumni in the real estate industry. This year our events and activities included free courses offered on financial modeling and ARGUS, networking events and panels with the GW Real Estate Alliance (a network of real estate industry alumni in the Washington, DC, area), and site tours. We also put on the annual REIDO case competition, a nationwide case competition open to other real estate programs, in which students work to propose ideas and solutions for a real development case provided by a corporate sponsor. The club is open to all full or part time MBA students interested in real estate investment or development.

Membership is $20 for one academic year or $35 for two academic years. Benefits include: Career panel discussions with industry leaders, happy hours and networking opportunities with Washington DC area industry professionals and George Washington University alumni, guided site tours of various high profile projects, and educational events designed to provide students with the latest best practices in development, project management, sustainability, and other real estate disciplines.

GWU Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

The GWU Society for Human Resource Management supports and encourages relationship building and network development between GW HR students and the professional business community. As a result, GWU HR students gain exposure and introduction to human resource professionals from every level of management in nearly every conceivable industry. Furthermore, our goal is to advance the profession to where HR is recognized as an essential partner in developing and executing organizational strategy by way of professional and career mentoring, guest speakers, and professional association.

Gesher (The Jewish Business Student Association)

The mission of Gesher (The Jewish Business Student Association) is to build and sustain a community that enhances the educational and professional development of Jewish students at GWSB. Gesher seeks to serve as a resource to develop, inform, support, and enrich an active and vibrant Jewish community on campus. Our goals are to encourage student participation in Jewish events, build stronger ties among Jewish students both within the business school and the larger GW graduate student community, to work with nearby Jewish organizations, and to foster a sense of commitment to Jewish values.

Membership is open and free to anyone who shares the concerns of the Jewish community at GWSB.

International Business Club

The GW International Business Club (IBC) furthers the understanding of issues related to international business and promotes international career opportunities among members of the GWSB community. The organization maintains close ties with the GW Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), the Department of International Business, and the Elliott School for International Affairs. The IBC seeks to fulfill its mission through hosting and sponsoring relevant social, professional, and academic events. Members of both the graduate and undergraduate communities are encouraged to participate.

GWSB Follies Club

The GWSB Follies Club serves as a creative outlet for MBA students to cooperatively write, create, produce, and act in a sketch comedy performance. The live performance is based on life at the GW School of Business– including themes, situations and experiences that are common to all MBAs. Each performance also serves as a means to raise funds for a local nonprofit or charity.

Hispanic MBA Student Association

The HMBASA is devoted to supporting and developing a prosperous Hispanic community on campus. The HMBASA’s mission is to promote networking, support the rich and diverse Hispanic culture, and offer personal and professional advancement for Hispanic MBA’s students through workshops, mentoring, and other special events.

Gulf Cooperation Council

The George Washington School of Business Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Club is an organization that seeks to highlight business and cultural opportunities for GW students and alumni with regard to the GCC countries. The purpose of the organization is to highlight business and cultural opportunities with the ultimate goal of fostering stronger relationships between George Washington University students, alumni, and the GCC countries: the United Arab Emirates, the State of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, and the State of Kuwait. The organization seeks to (i) bridge cultural differences and increase awareness of the Gulf region, and (ii) act as a resource for business opportunities with or within the GCC countries. GW MBAA Intramurals Club

The GW MBAA Intramurals Club is an executive committee group that seeks to foster camaraderie, teamwork, and friendly competition through various intramural sports and interscholastic tournaments such as the Georgetown Ultimate 4 Basketball Tournament. We seek to improve the overall university experience and to strengthen the bonds between classmates outside of the classroom and on the field or court.

Business@GW is an online news publication run by GW MBAs, which aims to give MBAs news they can actually use in their career journey. Business@GW is a committed news magazine providing our peers and colleagues with current information about the business world outside the four walls of Duques Hall. Business@GW has regular contributions from our correspondents. In addition, it also has regular Op-Eds from faculty and staff about news and current affairs and issues that cannot be discussed due to time constraints in classrooms. It also features regular updates for news aggregations from sources like BusinessWeek, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, Barron, MarketWatch, Forbes and Fortune. Biz@GW is a first of its kind initiative for the Business School at GWU, and looks to contribute to the ever climbing popularity of the School of Business. As our motto says, it’s NEWS BY THE STUDENTS, FOR THE STUDENTS.
